Description

Soft, fluffy, and bursting with cinnamon sweetness, this easy one-rise King Cake brings the magic of Mardi Gras right to your kitchen. It looks bakery-perfect but takes far less effort to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

  • ¾ cup warm milk

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tablespoons milk

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Purple, green, and gold sanding sugar or sprinkles

Instructions

  • Combine warm milk and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

  • Add sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla, and salt. Mix well.

  • Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface.

  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the dough.

  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and shape it into a ring. Pinch the ends together.

  • Place the ring on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it rise for about 45 minutes.

  • Bake at 350°F for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.

  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing. Drizzle over the cooled cake and decorate with colored sugar.
