Ingredients

  • 1 lb. mostaccioli pasta

  • 1 lb. ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 24 oz. jar marinara sauce

  • 1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp. salt

  • ¼ tsp. black pepper

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tbsp. olive oil

  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Cook pasta al dente in salted water, drain, and set aside.

  • Sauté onions in olive oil until translucent, add garlic for 1 minute.

  • Brown ground beef with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.

  • Stir in marinara sauce and simmer 5 minutes.

  • Toss cooked pasta with meat sauce and spread half in the baking dish.

  • Layer half of the cheeses, remaining pasta, and top with remaining cheese.

  • Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10-15 minutes until cheese is golden.

  • Rest 5 minutes, garnish with fresh basil or parsley, and serve warm

Notes

Use freshly grated cheese for the best flavor. This dish freezes well; prep it ahead of time and bake when needed.
