Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup whole milk

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 tablespoons hot water or milk


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  • Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.

  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing gently.

  • Divide batter and mix cocoa with hot water into one portion.

  • Layer vanilla and chocolate batters in pan and swirl with a knife.

  • Bake 50 to 60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool before slicing.
