- 2 ½ cups (320 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Optional: ¼ cup (25 g) colored sanding sugar, ½ cup (90 g) chocolate chips, or royal icing
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in vanilla.
- Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until just combined.
- Shape dough into a disk, wrap, and refrigerate for 30–60 minutes.
- Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut into Halloween shapes. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Optional: sprinkle sanding sugar or press chocolate chips into dough.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–15 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Rotate sheet halfway through.
- Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing, chocolate drizzle, or sanding sugar.
