Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. sponge cake or pound cake, cubed

  • 2 cups vanilla custard

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 cups fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

  • 1/4 cup fruit liqueur or fruit syrup (optional)

  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings or toasted nuts


Instructions

  • Cube the sponge cake and wash and dry the berries. Whip cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  • Place half of the sponge cake at the bottom of a trifle bowl and drizzle with liqueur or syrup.

  • Pour half of the custard over the sponge and spread evenly.

  • Scatter half of the berries and top with half of the whipped cream.

  • Repeat the layers with remaining sponge, custard, berries, and whipped cream.

  • Garnish with chocolate shavings or toasted nuts and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
