Ingredients

1 lb. sponge cake or pound cake, cubed

2 cups vanilla custard

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

1/4 cup fruit liqueur or fruit syrup (optional)

1/2 cup chocolate shavings or toasted nuts
Instructions

Cube the sponge cake and wash and dry the berries. Whip cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

Place half of the sponge cake at the bottom of a trifle bowl and drizzle with liqueur or syrup.

Pour half of the custard over the sponge and spread evenly.

Scatter half of the berries and top with half of the whipped cream.

Repeat the layers with remaining sponge, custard, berries, and whipped cream.

Garnish with chocolate shavings or toasted nuts and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
