Description

A rich chocolate cake layered with sweet cherries and fluffy whipped cream. This homemade Black Forest Cake tastes bakery-perfect and looks stunning on any dessert table.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water

  • 2 cups pitted cherries

  • â…“ cup sugar

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • ¼ cup water

  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream

  • â…“ cup powdered sugar

  • ½ cup chocolate shavings


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch cake pans.

  • In a large bowl whisk flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract then mix until smooth.

  • Slowly add hot coffee and mix until the batter becomes thin and glossy.

  • Divide batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.

  • In a saucepan cook cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and water until thickened. Cool the filling.

  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread whipped cream and cherry filling on top.

  • Add the second layer and frost the entire cake with whipped cream.

  • Decorate with chocolate shavings and cherries before serving
