- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (65 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk
- ½ cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240 ml) hot brewed coffee
- 2½ cups (425 g) semisweet chocolate chips
- 1½ cups (360 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups (300 g) fresh strawberries, sliced
- Whole strawberries for garnish
- Chocolate curls or shaved chocolate for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch cake pans.
- Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla, then mix until smooth.
- Slowly stir in the hot coffee until fully incorporated.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, then cool completely.
- Heat the heavy cream until simmering and pour it over the chocolate chips and butter. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Cool the ganache until spreadable.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread with ganache.
- Add a layer of sliced strawberries.
- Repeat with the second cake layer, ganache, and strawberries.
- Top with the final cake layer.
- Apply a thin crumb coat of ganache and chill for 20 minutes.
- Frost the cake with the remaining ganache.
- Decorate with whole strawberries and chocolate curls.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
