This homemade cranberry sauce is bright, tangy, and perfectly sweet, making it the easiest way to give your holiday table a fresh, festive upgrade.

- 12 oz. (340 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240 ml) water or fresh orange juice
- 1 tbsp. (15 ml) fresh orange zest
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. (5 ml) vanilla extract, optional
Instructions
- Rinse and sort the cranberries, removing any damaged berries.
- Add cranberries, sugar, water or orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, and salt to a medium saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Gently crush some cranberries with a spoon while leaving others whole for texture.
- Check the consistency and simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes if needed.
- Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
- Let the cranberry sauce cool for 20 to 30 minutes before serving or refrigerating.
- Serve chilled, cool, or slightly warm alongside your favorite savory dishes.
