Description

This homemade cranberry sauce is bright, tangy, and perfectly sweet, making it the easiest way to give your holiday table a fresh, festive upgrade.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz. (340 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water or fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp. (15 ml) fresh orange zest
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. (5 ml) vanilla extract, optional

Instructions

  • Rinse and sort the cranberries, removing any damaged berries.
  • Add cranberries, sugar, water or orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, and salt to a medium saucepan.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Gently crush some cranberries with a spoon while leaving others whole for texture.
  • Check the consistency and simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes if needed.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
  • Let the cranberry sauce cool for 20 to 30 minutes before serving or refrigerating.
