  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp cold butter
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for garnish
  • Fresh berries

Instructions

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and fill it with cubed bread.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Pour the custard over the bread and press gently.
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Mix topping ingredients until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle topping over casserole.
  • Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes covered, then 20–25 minutes uncovered.
  • Rest for 5 minutes, then serve with syrup and berries.
