- 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120 g) sourdough discard
- 3/4 cup (75 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 g) fine salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) baking powder
- 1 cup (170 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8-inch (20-cm) square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until glossy and well combined.
- Whisk in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Stir in sourdough discard until evenly incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and add extra chocolate on top if desired.
- Bake for 25 to 32 minutes, until the edges are set and the center remains slightly soft.
- Cool completely before lifting from the pan and slicing into squares.
