- 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (100 g) packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) fresh orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
- 2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) fresh orange juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with grease and parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Beat softened butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in molasses, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla.
- Add the dry ingredients in two additions and stir just until combined.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk powdered sugar with orange juice until smooth.
- Drizzle the orange glaze over the cooled loaf, allow it to set briefly, then slice and serve
