  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, sliced into thin pats
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine the chopped pecans, brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in the baking dish.
  • Pour the hot water evenly over the pecan mixture.
  • Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top without stirring.
  • Arrange the butter slices evenly across the cake mix.
  • Sprinkle the remaining pecans over the surface.
  • Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
  • Cool for about 20 minutes before serving.
