Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, sugars, oil, vanilla, and pumpkin puree until smooth.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips or pecans if desired.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing.
  • Serve plain or with butter, cream cheese, or maple butter.
