- 1/3 cup (67 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder

- 6 tablespoons (85 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup (75 g) dried cranberries
- 1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold heavy cream, plus more for brushing
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, then stir in the orange zest.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until coarse crumbs form with a few pea-sized butter pieces remaining.
- Gently fold in the dried cranberries.
- Whisk together the egg, heavy cream, and vanilla in a separate bowl.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round about 1 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into 8 wedges and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
- Chill the shaped scones for 15 to 20 minutes, then brush the tops lightly with cream.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until golden around the edges and set in the center.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest to make the glaze.
- Cool the scones slightly, drizzle with the orange glaze, and serve.
